We have joined the "bring a bag week" campaign. See our "Eco news" door for more details. We reuse plastic bags in school in the kitchen for many jobs and in the bathroom for taking wet clothes home.
We helped plant the last violas and bulbs in the last window box. Have you seen them on the wooden fences at the bottom of the steps coming into school. Look out for the grape hyacinths and daffodils.
Join in with the Big Bird Watch this weekend. We will be counting the birds in our playground at school tomorrow to enter the Schools' Big Birdwatch.
Downpatrick Nursery School is hosting a meeting on Thursday 17th January. It is organised by Lucinda White of the Down District Council. A report of the days events and photos are to follow.
We are all going to help to plant up the window boxes that you will see at the top of the wooden fences near the steps and the vegetable garden. We have each planted a viola, a small grape hyacinth bulb and a bigger daffodil bulb. We will look out for the shoots and flowers. You can ask us which box we helped to plant up.
We promoted powerdown day in school today.
In school we are learning to: ~ switch off lights when nobody is in the room ~ keep doors and windows closed to keep in the heat ~ turn off computers when not in use. What can you do at home? ~ Try to use some energy saving light bulbs ~ Try to switch off all devices insteaad of leaving them on standby ~ Support our efforts in school We walked over to the Down High Prep playground (in the pouring rain!) to meet Noel on his recycling bus. We were so proud of the children who were very good and answered all his questions correctly. We saw lots of interesting examples of how cleverly ordinary items can be reused and recycled.. See the display on our "Eco Schools" blue door display (just inside the front door). We each made a pot out of newspaper and filled it with proper compost; we are growing cress seeds which we can taste next week. Eco Schools Green Flag AwardWe are very pleased to have been awarded another green flag for our school. Downpatrick Nursery School has now been awarded no fewer than 7 green flags!!! Well done everyone! We have new fish in our new big fish tank. We have ten small, bright and shiny neons and two bigger gouramis. We had fun counting them.
