We have had such a fun week in nursery, we have been learning about fruits and vegetables this week and we got to paint pictures of them as well as look at real fruit and vegetables. There were a lot of new ones that we all got to look at and try to draw them from a fruit basket. On Thursday we baked buns and we were able to put in the ingredients for making them by ourselves. We wore our aprons and hats to keep clean while baking, this made us look like real bakers too. Outside on Friday we were given lots of wooden blocks for building. This was really exciting as there were many different things we could use the blocks to make. We made a lot of steps for climbing and walking carefully on, they were really fun to build and then play with.
We got to meet our new teacher Mrs Wray today! She was very nice and will be filling in for Mrs Burns while she is off. Mini's music came in today and sang lots of fun nursery rhymes. We done "Row your boat" and sat in pairs pretending to row, everyone was very good at doing the actions in this song. While singing "How much is that doggy on the window" we even got to hold a teddy dog from Mini's bag. She had a lot of mats all different shapes and colours and we played a game of jumping onto them and then when the music stopped we had to stay still and copy Elaine, which was great fun for everyone.
Today was our celebration of Diwali, we got to use the sweets that we already prepared and we also got to use the dancing sticks that we decorated.Mrs Burns showed us Diwali designs called rangoli and we made our own ones using glue and glitter, then we even had fruit laid out in a similar pattern! We made our snack table into a big long party table and there was little lights shaped as candles on the table and we had our burfi sweets that we made as part of snack. In the afternoon we all done our Diwali dance and played music using lots of instruments like the triangle, cymbals and chime bars with real Diwali music played on a CD. We made a ring and sat down after we danced and looked at our candles burning in a ring. We did not light the candles so we had the students light them so that we could watch the lights flickering safely.
We had a fun day with more preparations for Diwali tomorrow. We made sweets for Diwali called burfi, we used coconut to make the sweets and then coloured them with pretty red and yellow food colouring. The claves used for the Diwali dance were decorated today using coloured ribbon. The cardboard boxes today were great for playing with, we were even able to lay in them when we wanted a little rest!
Today was a very busy day, we got to paint our Diwali lamps that we had already made. They are all decorated and ready for Friday's celebration. We also got to do a very special dance at music time for Diwali. It was just like the dance we seen on yesterday's video at television time. We got our musical claves and in pairs we tapped them together to make music while we danced. This was very exciting. We also done a swop today, we took in one teddy bear from home and put them in a box. We could then pick a new teddy bear from the box so that we could take a different teddy home and someone else would have our teddy to look after and play with.
In class today we used paper trees and stuck them onto big sheets of paper. We used our fingers to paint the leaves on the trees and even painted some of the leaves falling off. We seen leaves falling off the trees in the wind yesterday so we were very good at painting them today.
Story time today was very special. It was a Christmas story! We all listened very carefully to this story, because after the story we got to talk about who was in the story. In December there will be a nativity play that we will all be in, so today we got to decide who we wanted to play. We won't be doing the play this month but now we know that we have all our stars, animals, cows and of course Mary and Joseph! We had some very clever girls playing outside today. They wanted to use boat and the wagon together so they had the idea of having someone in the wagon to tow the boat behind them. We went on our first bus outing to Portulla woods. We went for a looooong walk but we all did very well. We looked for different colour leaves and different nuts. We found a badger sett (we did not see Mr Badger!) At the end of the walk we could all find a conker to take home. Mrs Wheeler is very kind to let us visit her woods every year so - THANK YOU MRS WHEELER!
We had such fun today. We all wore our spots and pudsey shirts and pudsey ears. We brought our teddies to school and many of us brought our pennies in to cover Pudsey and Blush. Chloe brought in her whole big, full piggy bank - thank you Chloe! We had yellow dough and pudsey cutters with spot pegs to decorate them. We had to search for shiny spotty treasure in the sand. We coloured in and cut out Pudsey pictures and dressed him in spotty clothes. We painted pudsey shapes and decorated them with spotty bingo pens. Our family bought our Pudsey and Blush buns before and after school. We had great fun and we raised £111 - the most ever raised by Downpatrick Nursery School! Pudsey will be so proud of us all.
We were very busy getting ready for our Pudsey day tomorrow. We made LOADS of buns with Mrs McAllister and we iced and decorated them after lunch. We were very excited about the REAL Pudsey bear coming to our school. He came during our dinner and we could all shake his paw or give him a hug. He really was VERY big (even bigger than Mrs Burns!) Before he left he did a little dance for us and we gave him a clap. He asked us all to watch him on television tomorrow night. We were all so busy today and really engrossed in our play. We are enjoying our new role play area where we have to decide "What will it be?" Today Mrs McAllister helped us to make robot suits out of boxes. We painted them and put shiny silver paper on them too. We were showing Miss Larkin how well we know our shapes. It was Molly's birthday yesterday so we had a birthday snack all together today. After lunch we had music and enjoyed playing in Mrs McAllister's "Old Macdonald Band" she said our music was "splendid" and "magnificent" and "delightful" it was very funny.
