It was such a wet and windy, stormy day that we could not even go out under the shelter. We had fun in the hallway though climbing up the A-frame and jumping off onto the big blue crash mat! Then we had to crawl through the tunnel and step on the stepping stones to get back to the beginning. Most of us did it in our bare feet - what fun! We tasted our yummy carrot cakes for snack and we decorated Elmer elephants in different ways. After lunch we did an Eco schools check on all the lights in school. We got lots of ticks but a few crosses that made Mrs Burns very sad!! We have to try harder to remember to switch off the lights when nobody is in the room. After that we did some Healthy Living "dances" with exercises like "Jumping Jacks" - we will get so fit and strong.
We found some baby carrots in our vegetable garden so we made some carrot cakes for our snack tomorrow. We played with the new penguins-on-ice today. We could count 10 of them onto an "iceberg" and some of us made clever patterns with 2 colours of penguins. We played outside after lunch, we must remember to feed the birds every day now. We had lots of visitors in again today. Some of us did very good work with Aileen. Claire and Geraldine were in to help and our students are in all week. We were so busy with the big plastic bricks that Mrs McAllister moved the building site into the hallway. We took all the bricks there in the wheelbarrows and had more room to build walls (and knock them down again!) After lunch we heard the story of Theiving Three from Ten Town and then played Mrs Rutledges fun music box game. If we had the music box when the song stopped we could choose an instrument and join the band. After music we had Story sacks for the first time. We will soon all get a turn.
We had many eager workers at the small world construction site on the tabletop today. We also tried out the Bee-bot programmable robots for the first time. They did some clever "dances" with all the moves we asked them to make. We had the big plastic bricks on the floor and we made a huge tower, a house, a space rocket and many other walls and towers. We are learning the names of common garden birds and at lunch time we put out our own bird cake we made. It must be delicious because all of a sudden a number of different birds came to taste it. We are so glad they have found the new bird feeders at the sand house. After lunch we had rhyme time with garden bird songs and rhymes.
We were pleased to have Mrs Rutledge back today - she gave us our snack. We drew our special pictures for January with Miss Reid. After lunch we talked about the Eco Schools judges and what they will be looking for. We started our Eco Review and some of the children were "judges" going to check on litter bins and dripping taps. We will be doing a lot more work for Eco Schools as we get ready to apply for another green flag. We had a bit of time left for a few quick dances and we tried out a wedding waltz! We are very lucky to have so many helpers in our lovely school. Today Mrs Rutledge and Mrs McAllister were away at the Board for some training. We were all very good for Mrs Johnston and our students, Miss Reid and Miss Kelly. We also had Rachael and Jackie (Speech and Language) to come and play some fun games in the quiet room. Geraldine(Pre School Pi came to visit us and saw us having fun outside. We played outside again after lunch.
Miss Corkin was our visitor today. She taught some of our big brothers and sisters at this school before now. She told us all about the birds in our gardens and how we need to give them plenty of food in the winter. We then all helped her to make some yummy bird cake. We had to chop up apples and carrots, grate cheese and crumble bread. We then added all sorts of other treats for birds and mixed it all up with lard. We think the birds will love it. What a treat we had today!!! We had to have a quick snack and a quick play and a quick lunch so that we could be ready for a lovely long, funny, clever interesting show. We helped to act out the story of Jack and the beanstalk and then Goldilocks and the three bears. The Goldilocks puppet was SOOOOOOO naughty! We all giggled with delight at all her antics - she even had to sit on the thinking spot! We are very grateful for the Big Lottery funding that is giving us all our Mini's music sessions and visits from Mr Hullabaloo (he will be back again in May!) We still have the bathroom to play in but now we are having to get dressed up for the wedding after our bath! We enjoy dancing and eating the wedding feast. The boys need a bit of persuading to come and do their groomsman duties! |
