We cooked pizza faces today with tomatoes, mushrooms, courgetees and cheese. We ate them for our snack, YUM! Elaine from Mini's Music came into school today. We had fun dancing and singing with our ribbons and scarves.
We loved playing in the bedroom and bathroom area in the home corner ~ pretending to bath, get pyjamas and dressing gowns on ~ trying out the differeent slippers and "sleeping" in the cosy bed. We cut out beds and lamps from magazines to make bedroom pictures. We washed dishes in the water tray and played with the snow covered winter farm.
We made more birds with Mr McMullan at the craft table. You can see them in the "branches" on the lines across the hallway. Mrs Johnston came in at lunch time as Mrs Burns left early for a meeting. We had lovely dancing with Mrs Rutledge.
We had a visitor in our school this morning. Miss Corkin came in to tell us about the birds and how important it is to feed them in the winter. We all helped her to make special "bird cake". We made bread crumbs and grated cheese. We chopped up carrots and apple. We mixed all the ingredients together and carefully added melted lard to stick it all together. Then we put the mixture into containers. Miss Corkin taught us some bird rhymes and songs and she read us a story with lots of different birds in it. We had 10 ingredients in our bird cake:
bread, cheese, carrots, apple, rice, raisins, sweetcorn, seed, nuts, We baked circle biscuits with Mrs McAllister today. We enjoyed painting pictures of our new puppet friends called Jim and Jenny. Mr McMullan was our teacher today and he gave us our snack and read a lovely story. We couldn't go out as it was too wet so we had fun balancing and crawling through the tunnel with Mrs Rutledge in the hallway and we played with the lovely Brio train set in class. We watched "The bird table" after lunch. We made little birds and a cosy nest for them too (look on the twig lines in the hallway). Mr McMullan helped us after telling us a lovely poem about a robin finding a cosy place in the winter. After lunch, Karen from "Habitat for Humanity" came to talk to us (see the notice board beside the library pockets).
We had lots of fun trying to make snowballs out of cornflour "gloop". Mrs Burns would give us a ball of gloop but it would "melt" into a white puddle in our hand. It was very interesting but many of us are going home in much whiter uniforms!!! We also enjoyed exploring the white bubbles in the water.
We painted Elmer pictures using square sponges with different colours. Our Elmers are all plaing in the snow on the back wall of the playroom.
We made black and white peppermint creams today. We will eat them for snack tomorrow. We had a birthday snack for Lucy today (she also had her birthday during the holidays). We made kennels and cages for the black and white animals using waffle bricks. The polar bears, seals and penguins had lots of fun playing on the freezing cold "icebergs" in the water tray. We had music time after lunch and played tambourines, cymbals and maracas.
We were all very happy to be back and it was so good to have a full class with all our friends back to full health. We welcomed our new student teacher, Mr McMullan, who is with us for 2 weeks. We painted lovely bright pictures of our presents from Santa (you can see them in the hallway). It was too wet to go out but we did some climbing and balancing in the hallway. We had a belated birthday snack for Charlotte who celebrated her birthday during the holiday. We enjoyed our new winter songs in "Rhyme time".
