We put the eyes, mouth, nostrils and decorations on our red chinese dragon's head. We used chopsticks again to eat fruit and snacks. We are getting really good! At number time we heard more about Freddie Four who likes to explore. He had been visiting China!
We practised using chopsticks. We tried to eat food with them. It was very tricky! We painted a box and an egg box bright red - we are going to make these into a chinese dragon. We enjoyed playing with the airport on the table.
We were very clever today. We copied chinese writing for the names of the animals for the chinese calendar. We really had to concentrate to get it just right. After lunch we practised our dragon dance.
We were pleased to see Mrs Johnston again as Mrs Burns was out for training. We told her what we had learnt about Chinese New Year. We did lovely red cut and stick pictures. We sang songs and rhymes about number three after lunch.
Kung Hei Fat Choi! We started our chinese new year celebrations today. The Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant was very busy with lots of eager chefs, waiters and customers. There are new photos to view in the gallery too. We did red and gold printing pictures as red is a lucky chinese colour. We greeted each other in Mandarin Chinese. After lunch we listened to chinese music then made some of our own. We used drums and cymbals to make loud music to scare away Nian the chinese monster!
We had a quick, early snack together and had a play outside. We saw our visitors arrive with all sorts of interesting bags and boxes. We went in for our show today. Ricky and Chris played lots of instruments and gave us all instruments to play too. We saw and heard Ricky's enormous double bass and his violin (we thought it looked liked a baby bass!). We went on a musical train ride and did musical ice skating (with a boys and girls team.) We played lots of interesting instruments to help Ricky tell the "Percy the park keeper" snowy story. We all had great fun and really enjoyed our visitors. Ricky hopes some of us might learn to play a musical instrument too one day.
Some started work on their end of year books. We had another party snack altogether. Rhys shared his caterpillar cake with us. We enjoyed our Rhyme Time today with songs about getting ready for bed.
We finished off all our art activities and then had a lovely snack altogether. Grace shared her pretty princess castle cake with us. We did the fun and lively "Birdie dance" in dancing today and we also did slow twirly movements with "Lark ascending" to quieten down.
We made snowy scenes for our penguins using talc, chalk, white pencils and white paint. They are all in our cloakroom hallway. We tried to count the birds from our bird hide but we couldn't spot many today. At lunchtime we saw a magpie and two blue tits.
We made birds using pencils for their different colours. We even gave them colourful wings. Miss Corkin was our special visitor today, can you remember what bird she looked like with her brown clothes? She told us about the birds we might see in the garden. We helped her to make bird cake by chopping up: carrots, apple, cheese and bread. We also added bird seed, raisins, rice and cornflakes. We hope the birds will come and eat it. We will watch them from our bird hide.
